Box Elder Schools

Box Elder School Bear Pride Logo, "We are BOX ELDER BEARS, What's Your Superpower?"At Box Elder Schools we strive to see every student as an individual. We think all children are creative and that all students should succeed academically. Therefore, Box Elder respects the needs of each student, fosters a caring and creative environment, and emphasizes the social, emotional, and intellectual development of each student.

We take pride in helping each and every student thrive and to become a better person, who is caring and looks to lend a helping hand.

This year we came up with the Motto "We are Box Elder Bears! What's Your Superpower?"

  • Business Ed/Computer - Maria Gasvoda

I am Ms. Gasvoda and I teach Business. This is my 20th year at Box Elder School, including the year I did Classroom Observations and Student Teaching here. I live in Havre and have twin daughters who are sophomores. I first earned a degree in Business Administration from Northern Montana College. Then later decided teaching was my passion so I returned to get my teaching credentials in business, computer information systems, and English from MSU-Northern. I love everyone here and can not imagine working any where else. :)I am Ms. Gasvoda and I teach Business. • Math/Science - Connie Reichelt

Hi, I'm Connie Reichelt. I am a math and science nerd and therefore that is what I teach at Box Elder High School. I attended high school in Columbus, Montana followed by Bachelor degrees from the University of Montana in Journalism and Political Science, Bachelor degrees from Creighton University in Nursing and Human Biological Science and a Masters degree in Nursing from Montana State University. My background is primarily healthcare but for personal reasons I decided to try education. My first experience with education was a position as an adjunct professor for Montana State University School of Nursing followed, years later, by a position at Havre High School. I am currently in my 6th year at Box Elder High School and I love every minute I am here. I cannot say enough about the wonderful students I interact with on a daily basis. The only children I love more are my two daughters, Madison and Sophia. Madison is a student at the University of Montana and Sophia is in her senior year at Big Sandy High School. My husband, Mark, farms and ranches just outside Big Sandy where we have lived for the past 21 years.

  • Math/Science - Peter Suci

I grew up in Ithaca, NY where I went to High School and afterwards Cornell U where I obtained an undergraduate degree in math. I also have a doctorate in Bioengineering from the U of Utah. I was a research scientist at Montana State University for approximately 20 years. I have co-authored over 50 peer reviewed publications in fields ranging from applied spectroscopy to targeted drug delivery. I have been teaching high school math for just over 3 years. I am a first year teacher at Box Elder. I accepted the position here for a number of reasons. One of them is that I have an opportunity to teach physics, which I have always enjoyed with an intellectual passion. Another primary reason is that the focus of the administration at Box Elder is truly and completely on the students’ education, an administrative attitude which I believe may be rare, and is certainly precious.

  • Dean of Academics/Gear-Up - Shari Ruff

From remote Zurich, Montana, I graduated from Chinook High school and then the University of Montana-Missoula. I taught in Seattle, Washington before starting a family.

After eight years of being a stay home mom, I applied to substitute teach at Box Elder School. That was in the year 2000, and I am still here.

My teaching degree is in English and Psychology. I taught English at BEHS for one year before moving into the counseling department. The main focus of my job is making sure students are emotionally and academically on the road to success in high school and prepared for what lies ahead after graduation.

I love working at Box Elder School. Seventeen years have passed and I still look forward to coming to work. What a blessing. The students are what make BE the place I want to be. The atmosphere is positive and welcoming. Students are open and willing to help others. I see smiling faces and hear positive messages from students and staff everyday. Box Elder School is the best!

I enjoy seeing all the great things students/teachers are doing with our new technology. We have a print shop, 3D printers, drones and robotics. All this new technology keeps getting better and better and our kids are doing some really amazing things!
